The Gas Gas rider Adam Raga has achieved in Brazil his fourth consecutive Indoor Trial World Championship after winning the Gran Premio Repsol YPF Cidade de Sao Paulo. Raga’s victory, and the fifth position taken by Albert Cabestany, has allowed the Gas Gas rider to take the World Crown even before the penultimate Grand Prix of the Season which will take place next Saturday in Buenos Aires.
Raga has assured his sixth triumph of the season in the first two sections of the final where he has accumulated only three penalty points, whilst his rivals Jeroni Fajardo and Takahisa Fujinami have added ten marks to their score cards. These two riders have finished second lap tied on points. The Japanese has won the play-off competed in the Double-Lane, this allowing the Montesa rider to reach second position, his best result during this season so far.
The cut for the final has been decided in the Double-Lane where Toni Bou has found himself out of the top three positions after being defeated by Fajardo. Although he was tied on points with Raga, Gas Gas rider’s best time for completing the first lap has led him to get the final. Fujinami has been the best man of the qualifying heat after rejecting to tackle sixth section in order to gain time, following an strategic with the objective of assuring his ticket for the final. His team mate in Montesa Dougie Lampkin has ended seventh and last classified after a grim exhibition.
The eleventh and penultimate round of the season, the Gran Premio Repsol YPF Ciudad de Buenos Aires will take place next Saturday eleventh the March, starting at 8 p.m.
A. Raga: “I am very happy and thrilled for having achieved the victory and the World Title. I did not expect to claim the Championship here because I was not depending on my result but on my competitor’s performance. Since I was a child, my only aim has always been to succeed in this sport so tonight I feel I have my dreams come true. This Title is still more important because the level of my rivals is very high and the season has been very hard. I want to thanks my team and Gas Gas for their great effort, and also Jordi Tarrés for all his support during the last years”.
T. Fujinami: “I have obtained my best result this season and this is very important for me and for my team. Our team has improved during the last weeks and we are finishing the Championship with good results after having undergone a bad opening to season 2006. I hope to maintain this level for the two Grand Prix’s remaining in the calendar”.
J. Fajardo: “I have done a very good first lap and I was really satisfied with this. I have begun second lap quite bad but I have upper my level. With this result, and this podium, I am very motivated to fight for the victory in Buenos Aires, where I already won last year”.
