FITWC Buenos Aires - race report

Sunday the 12th of March 2006 by jitsie

Albert Cabestany (Sherco) has finished victorious in the Gran Premio Repsol YPF Ciudad de Buenos Aires, held today in the pavilion Luna Park of the capital of Argentina before 7.000 spectators. With this triumph, his third this season, the Spanish rider has assured to end this season as runner-up.

Cabestany has dominated the first lap, and in the final he has taken the lead right from the second section. Toni Bou (Beta) has come back to the podium after having been out of the final since he took the win in Barcelona. Jeroni Fajardo (Gas Gas) has been third in the same stage that last year witnessed how the rider achieved his first and only victory of his career in Indoor Trial World Championship.

For the first time this season, the World Champion Adam Raga has been out of the top three positions. The World Champion, who has finished fourth, was tied on points with Toni Bou, but his worst time for completing first lap has prevented him from surviving the cut for the final. The Gas Gas rider had only been awarded one point in the first four sections, but two consecutive fives in zones five and six had condemned his aspirations for this last Grand Prix of the season.

Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa) has lost all chances to achieve third consecutive podium after the big crash he has suffered in the fourth section, causing him a deep cut in his left hand.

Last round of the season, the Trial Indoor Repsol Gran Premio de la Comunidad de Madrid will take place next Saturday 18th of March, starting at 8:30 p.m.

A. Cabestany: “Today I could show that I am a winner, one week after having committed an stupid mistake that made me lose the chances of taking a good result in Sao Paulo. Furthermore, this victory helps me to assure the runner-up position, and I would like to share this result with people as my father and Lluís Gallach, who have always been pushing for me. I am also very satisfied because the sections in this Indoor Trial turned to be much more difficult that we had previously expected”.

T. Bou: “I will always keep good memories from my first visit to Argentina as I had arrived with the aim of being back on the podium and ultimately I finished better than Fajardo, which assures not only the third position in the overall standings, but also a ticket to compete the whole series next season. I really needed a result like this because I have undergone very bad moments during the weeks that I could not make it to the final”.

J. Fajardo: “On one hand I am disappointed because I aspired to repeat last year’s victory and not only this was not possible but I also lost all my chances to finish third in the Championship. I am happy with my riding during the qualifying heat, but I spoilt it with my failure in the third section of the final, as I was not longer depending on me but in my rivals, which is always a complicated situation. Furthermore, I have been ill this week and I felt kind of sick during the final, so I could not ride at my best”.
