FITWC Madrid - race report

Monday the 20th of March 2006 by jitsie

The Spanish Gas Gas rider Adam Raga, has finished the Indoor
Trial World Championship season achieving his seventh triumph of the year in
the Trial Indoor Repsol Gran Premio Comunidad de Madrid.

Raga has made an amazing coming-up in the final competed against
Jeroni Fajardo (Gas Gas) and Albert Cabestany (Sherco). He was third after a
failure in section four, but he has moved unfazed, shortening differences
with his rivals until he has re-taken the lead. Fajardo and Cabestany have
maintained a close fight for the second position, finally reached by the Gas
Gas rider.

Raga and Cabestany have been the best men in the qualifying
heat, which they have finished tied on points. Best time for Gas Gas rider
in completing the course has allowed him to classifie for the final in the
first position, ahead of the Sherco representative. Toni Bou has not
survived the cut for the second lap after losing out to Fajardo in the
Double-Lane.

Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa) has taken the start, but he has not
been able to tackle any section because an infection in his left hand’s
finger, which he got injured last week in Buenos Aires, has made it
impossible for the Japanese to be in conditions for riding. However, the
Montesa representative has at least tried it, and the spectators in Palacio
de los Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid have greeted him with rousing
applause.

A. Raga: "I am very happy with this triumph, it is the best way
to put and end to the Championship. Furthermore, I am very satisfied with my
riding today, as I was able to upper my game after my second failure. The
season has been very good and we all have been at a very high level. My
team, my bike and myself, we have always performed at our best, and only in
one occasion I did not step the podium. I hope to maintain this level and
achieve more victories in the future”.

J. Fajardo: "I am very glad with my second position achieved
today. Obviously, reaching a win would have been better, but Adam has been
really strong. I think my riding level was good, and it has allowed me to
finish ahead of Cabestany. In the Championship, I think I have improved my
level compared to last year, but Bou has prevented me to re-take the third
position in the overall standings”.

A. Cabestany: “I am not satisfied with this result as after the
first lap, problems with my bike have forced me to take the second Beta. You
can never know, but I think I could have achieved a better result if this
had not happened. My outcome of the whole season is good because I have
given an step forward regarding my riding level”.
