Sunday the 6th of August 2006 by Trials Action
The British trials championship reached round four out of the scheduled seven events earlier today, when the series visited the famous Addingham Moorside venue just outside the small, but well known trials town of Silsden, Yorkshire. Riding on what he would consider to be home turf, recently crowned European champion James Dabill faired badly on terrain that should have suited the youngster from Leeds well.
Sixth at the last round in Devon back in June, James could only manage one place higher today as he slumped to fifth place at an event organised by his home club. Dabill was never on the pace on any of the three laps of twelve sections and saw his championship campaign take a serious blow as his main rivals Jarvis and Colley scrapped it out for top honours once again. It was Manxman Colley who finally took the win to close the gap on series leader Jarvis, leaving James back in a distant third spot in the overall standings.
With just three rounds remaining Dabill will be looking for a strong finish to the championship, starting with a better showing at the next counting trial in Northern Ireland next Sunday, if he is to improve on his current position. A run of poor domestic results has allowed both Morris and team mate Brown to close in on James, with just two points currently separating this young trio of emerging British talent.
After Ireland, the championship then visits Scotland in mid September before returning to nearer home in early October, with Bradford and District Motor Club hosting the finale. Deeply disappointed with his performance at a venue so close to his family home, James offered no excuses and just explained where his day had gone so badly wrong.
“Overall the trial was relatively easy, apart from two sections. The dry and dusty conditions should have suited me, but I made a real mess of the most difficult sections on each lap. Out of a possible six maximums, I clocked up five out of six over the three laps, which pretty much tells you about my day.”
