Adam Raga (Gas Gas) took victory in the Riello UPS Grand Prix of Italy held today in Forum di Assago in Milan. Raga is the first rider to repeat victory so far in the Indoor Trial World Championship.
The Spanish rider had been leading the journey since the qualifying heat. Once on the second lap, he clearly dominated the final, casting the best performance with nine penalty points less than second position, Albert Cabestany. The Sherco Rider had seen his chances of victory fade away as he has collected two “fives” in sections there and six. Meanwhile, Raga’s exhibition over the track had been impeccable.
Milano has been the first Indoor in which the podium was not dominated by all Spanish riders as Fujinami snatched the ticket for the final lap, ahead of names such as Toni Bou (Beta) and Jeroni Fajardo (Gas Gas) who arrived as candidates for the victory.
Bou had been the first rider to attack the sections and the only one who was awarded five points in section one, whereas Fajardo committed four consecutive failures after section two, meaning he would miss out on the chances of being in the final.
A. Raga: “I am very satisfied for having taking my second win of the season, making it clear that I am the first candidate for clinching the 2006 title. I have felt very comfortable during the whole competition, and I believe this riding level will lead me to take more World Crowns. These good results are a consequence of how great I am feeling now.
A. Cabestany: “I am very glad as I’m reaching a place in every podium since Marseille, which means I am a candidate for the victory in any Grand Prix. On the other hand, I think we have committed a mistake in the set-up for the bike and because of this we have lost the victory but anyway I am happy with the result and my performance today”.
T. Fujinami: “Today is a great day for me and I am feeling very happy for several reasons. On one hand, I am back in the podium in a round of the World Championship. Furthermore, this is very important for my country and also for my team and the factory as we have finally seen a Montesa bike competing the final. I hope that from today onwards I’ll keep fighting for the victory in the rest of the Grand Prixs”.
