Toni Bou (Beta) achieved his first victory in the Indoor Trial of Barcelona after having dominated the final in which he battled against Albert Cabestany (Sherco) and Adam Raga (Gas Gas). The Beta rider, who had started in the event for the fist time in his career, showed impeccable riding, having the win already in his pocket two sections prior to the end, thanks to having accumulated an advantage of more than 10 points over his competitors.
This is Bou’s second triumph of the season. After Barcelona’s results, there is only seven points of difference between the first three classified riders in the overall standings, so now the fight for taking the World Crown is closer and more competitive than ever.
Raga achieved his ticket to the final as first classified of the qualifying heat, although he was tied on points with Cabestany, as he ended the first lap with better time than his rival.
The Japanese rider, Fujinami (Montesa) once more prooved to be the best non-Spanish riders and a serious candidate for the podium as he kept his chances for achieving a place in the final open until the he has failed in the double-lane. Jeroni Fajardo (Gas Gas) found himself out of the fight for the victory for the third consecutive Grand Prix. The Gas Gas man was forced to change his bike after a failure in section six, when his chances for achieving a place in the final were all but gone.
T. Bou: “Winning in Barcelona is a dream come true so I am very happy. This has been my first participation here and now that I have achieved this victory I feel that I have succeed with one of the aims in my career. Furthermore, the support of the public has been fantastic”.
A. Cabestany: “I want to congratulate Toni because he has been impressive so he really deserved this victory. I must admit I was not riding at my best level because I have been ill all the week. Anyway, I think my performance has not been very bad, and the bike worked very well. The second place is still a good result”.
A. Raga: “I am not very happy because after having done a very good first lap I committed too many mistakes in the final loosing my chances to repeat a victory in Barcelona. Bou has been amazing and I must congratulate him”.
